Student Testimonials of their Internship experience:

Intern: Mike Peveich
Site: Carolina Speedway
“I've learned about what is important to the dirt racing fans and how that's different from the typical NASCAR fan or other motorsports fans. I also found out that dirt track venue management/promotion is an avenue that I'd like to continue to explore and see what opportunities I can create for myself. It's been one of the few areas of the industry not devastated by the economy because people are passionate about it and you could go to an entire season of racing at the dirt track for the same price as a weekend at a NASCAR event.”

Intern: Heather Suggs
Site: Jeff Gordon Foundation
“I have learned that I can voice my ideas and opinions, [even if] they sound crazy, and I know there will be people either taking my idea and running with it, or showing me how it could maybe be built upon.”

Intern: Daniel Kerber
Site: Breaking Limits
“This internship met and exceeded all of my expectations. I was part of many different aspects of the Motorsports industry from hospitality to photo shoots with drivers and owners to putting on events. I would recommend Breaking Limits to all my classmates as an internship. It is a great place to work with great people. I made great contacts within the Motorsport industry that will eventually help me find a job after graduation.”

Intern: Rhegan Flanagan
Site: Performance Instruction & Training
“I loved that after a couple of weeks my supervisors gave me much more responsibility and had me give presentations to clients and to help out more with events. I realize that I really do want to be in the motorsports industry and it is something that I will really enjoy doing. I became much more confident in myself and my abilities. I am no longer afraid of public speaking. I have also learned to offer a good opinion and speak up to my supervisors when I have an idea that could help out.”

Intern: Haley Steinkuhler
Site: Daytona International Speedway
“The Coke Zero 400 race weekend was definitely the most positive aspect of this weekend. There is no better way to test your skills in the motorsports industry than to work during an event weekend. Being thrown into tense situations on a strict time schedule forced me to take responsibility. The weekend was definitely a great experience.”

The student should prepare program plans in an effective manner consistent with the agency’s procedures and act as a leader in carrying out various types of programs.

These experiences may occasionally include such “mundane” activities as record keeping and handing out towels, etc., however, keep in mind that the practicum/internship should be a learning experience for the student and not just “free labor.” Therefore, the agency is encouraged to offer the student a variety of challenging experiences.
